MISSION STATEMENT

Eastern Deaf Bikers (EDB) membership is open to all persons, regardless of hearing ability, male and female, who share a love for motorcycles. The EDB will promote an atmosphere in which all members feel comfortable, enjoy having a good time while showing a mutual respect for all fellow members.

ARTICLE I - ORGANIZATION NAME

Section 1: This organization shall be officially known as the Eastern Deaf Bikers (EDB)

ARTICLE II - PURPOSE

Section 1: To promote club membership to those who wish to associate with fellow bikers, sharing riding experiences and good times.

Section 2: To provide members opportunities to participate in group rides and events.

Section 3: To promote motorcycle safety, educating all members on the rules and regulations of the road.

ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP

Section 1: Membership is open to all individuals.

Section 2: All members are expected to respect and adhere to the EDB mission statement.

Section 3: Completed membership applications, release forms and dues shall be presented to the Treasurer. Qualified applicants will become official members upon actual payment of the annual membership dues.

Section 4: Non-payment of dues will automatically terminate the membership of a person in the EDB.

Section 5: Non-members joining the club are not allowed to vote or have a voice in EDB official business during the first six months of membership. This is to encourage all members to remain current with their dues.

ARTICLE IV - ELECTED OFFICERS

Section 1: The elected offices of the EDB shall be the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. These officers are elected by the EDB members at its annual fall meeting for two-year terms.

Section 2: A sergeant-at-arms can be chosen at the discretion of the president.

ARTICLE V - MEETINGS

Section 1: Official Membership meetings shall be held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.

Section 2: At least one fifth (1/5) or 20% of the voting members (those with paid up dues to the EDB) must be present at any Official Membership meeting to constitute a quorum.

Section 3: Every EDB member shall have one (1) vote. Each member may vote for one and only one person for each available position when voting to chose elected officials.

Section 4: The order of business at official membership meetings shall be as follows:

  1. Call to order of the meeting by the President or the Vice-President in the absence of the President.
  2. Establishment of a quorum
  3. Verification of members in attendance and current membership by the Treasurer
  4. Reading of the minutes of the previous meeting by the Secretary
  5. EDB's financial standing report by the Treasurer
  6. Committee reports (if any)
  7. Old business
  8. New business
  9. Adjournment

ARTICLE VI - FISCAL YEAR

Section 1: The fiscal year of EDB Club shall run from April 1 of each year to March 31 of each next year. All annual dues for EDB Club must be paid before a person is allowed to participate in any club events as an official member.

ARTICLE VII - DUES & EDB FUNDS

Section 1: The annual dues for the upcoming fiscal year shall be determined by an official membership vote at the annual spring membership meeting.

ARTICLE VIII - CODE OF CONDUCT

Section 1: EDB has put forth these rules so that everybody will have the same understanding of the conduct expected of all members.

  • Respect: Respect shall be shown for all individuals, regardless of membership.
  • Fighting: Fighting will not be tolerated at any EDB event or gathering.
  • Disputes shall be brought to the attention of elected official for resolution.
  • Alcohol and drugs: EDB members are expected to follow the laws of the community in regards to the use of alcohol and drugs.

Section 2: Those who refuse to honor the code of conduct may lose their membership by due process. When such disrespect is brought to the attention of elected officials, the president shall select a sergeant-at-arms to circulate a petition from members favoring expulsion for a period no less than one year. The petition must have two-thirds (2/3) of the membership signatures to initiate the expulsion.

Section 3: Expelled members may reapply for membership after the one year expulsion period, provided they attend one of the official membership meetings and

  • Make an appeal to the current members, and
  • Obtain the support of two-thirds (2/3) of the members by secret ballot.

ARTICLE IX - EDB LOGO

Section 1: The official EDB logo is an eagle soaring in flight, which was selected and approved in the fall of 2004 by club members.

Section 2: The EDB logo is the sole property of the EDB club.

Section 3: The EDB logo is to be used on official club documents and merchandise.

Section 4: The EDB logo may not be reproduced or used without permission from club officials.

ARTICLE X - WEBSITE

Section 1: The president shall designate a member as the EDB Webmaster to oversee and maintain the official EDB website ( http://www.easterndeafbikers.org )

Section 2: The designated Webmaster shall ensure all information on the website is accurate and up to date.

Section 3: All member posted messages are expected to be respectful, and within the boundaries of the guidelines set forth in the Rules of Conduct (Article VIII above)

Section 4: The EDB by-laws shall be posted on the website in a protected and a tamper-proof format.

ARTICLE XI - AMENDMENTS AND PROCEDURES

Section 1: These By-Laws may be amended at the General Membership Meetings by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the general membership present.
